STATEMENT OF INTENT
It is the intention of Safety First to strive for continuous improvement to achieve excellence in the management of a safe and healthy environment for all workers and visitors to our premises and at workplaces where our workers are required to work that are not directly under our control.
Safety First strives to create a culture where we take personal responsibility for the health, safety and wellness of ourselves and others.
Safety First recognises the positive impact and benefits that enhanced health, safety and wellness will bring to our workers and the organisation as a whole.
In order for these objectives to be met, Safety First will, so far as is reasonably practicable:
TAKE ACTION
- Identify and control the health, safety & wellness risks arising from our work activity and environments to prevent incidents or injury.
- Take appropriate steps to prevent accidents or injury, including the provision of safe places of work and equipment.
CONSULT & ENGAGE
Regularly discuss health, safety & wellness matters within the workplace and action as required.
Use information, instruction, training and supervision opportunities to create, support and reinforce health, safety and wellness work practices and the environment.
INVESTIGATE & LEARN
- Investigate incidents and near misses pertaining to workers and visitors under their control to prevent re-occurrence.
COMPLY
- Implement measures to comply with relevant health and safety legislation.
PROMOTE A POSITIVE SAFETY CULTURE
- A culture that improves the health, safety, and well-being of our workers.
CONTINUALLY IMPROVE
- Strive to make continual improvements in health, safety and wellness performance including the establishment of objectives and targets.
COMPETENCE
- Appoint competent workers and provide adequate resources to enable health and safety objectives to be developed and delivered.
REVIEW
- Undertake an annual review of our objectives, targets, and performance and where necessary, update this policy and other relevant procedures.
